Author Guidelines
JTESH: Journal of Tropical Environmental & Sustainable Health is an open-access scientific journal published by the Faculty of Public Health, Universitas Mulawarman. All submitted manuscripts are evaluated through a rigorous double-blind peer-review process. Authors are encouraged to carefully review and follow the submission guidelines prior to submitting their manuscripts:
Preparation
Ensure all required documents are prepared and uploaded together:
- Manuscript (following the template)
- Ethical clearance (for research involving invasive procedures), uploaded as a supplementary file
General Requirements
Manuscripts may be written in English using MS Office (minimum version 2010). The document should use A4 paper. Text must be typed in Cambria, 11 pt, with 1.5 line spacing.
Title and Authors
The title must be concise, clear, and unambiguous, written in English using capital letters without uncommon abbreviations. Below the title, include full author names (without titles), affiliations, correspondence address, and email for coresponding author.
Abstract and Keywords
The abstract should summarize the background, objectives, methods, key results, and conclusions of the study. It must not exceed 250 words and include up to 5 keywords.
Introduction
The introduction should present the background, relevant literature, research gap or novelty, problem statement or hypothesis, approach, and study objectives. Literature review should be integrated to highlight novelty rather than written as a separate section.
Methods
Describe the research procedures clearly and systematically. Include materials, subjects, tools or software, study design, sampling techniques, variables measured, data collection methods, and statistical analyses used.
Results
Present findings clearly and concisely without interpretation. Report all results, including non-significant findings, along with the number of observations and handling of missing data. Avoid repeating methodological explanations.
Discussion
Interpret the research findings scientifically, supported by adequate data. Explain observed trends, compare with previous studies, and address study limitations. Ensure the discussion answers the research hypothesis or objectives.
Conclusion
Summarize the main findings in relation to the research objectives or hypothesis. Avoid repeating results and discussion. Suggestions for future research may be included if necessary.
References
All cited sources must appear in the reference list, with at least 80% from scientific journals published within the last five years. Use APA 6th edition style and manage references with Mendeley. Include DOIs for journal articles and URLs with access dates for online sources. Unpublished materials are not permitted.
Tables
Tables must be included within the manuscript and numbered sequentially (Table 1, Table 2, etc.). Titles should be clear and informative. Use Cambria 11 pt for headings and 10 pt for table content with single spacing. Cite sources where applicable.
Figures
Figures must be part of the manuscript and numbered consecutively (Figure 1, Figure 2, etc.). Use JPEG format with at least 300 DPI resolution and dimensions of 1000 × 1000 pixels. Ensure clarity of all elements. Cite sources if figures are adapted.
Abbreviations and Symbols
Define abbreviations at first mention (e.g., Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)), then use consistently. Follow international standards and use metric units for measurements.
Data Presentation
Percentages (%) should be presented numerically. Mean values must be accompanied by standard deviation and median where applicable. Use a period for thousands (e.g., 123.300) and a comma for decimals (e.g., 172,4 cm). Report significance values (e.g., p = 0.006).
Plagiarism Policy
All manuscripts will undergo plagiarism screening using Turnitin, with a maximum similarity threshold of 20%. Authors should paraphrase appropriately. Direct quotations may be used sparingly with proper citation.
Multiple Publication Policy
Manuscripts that duplicate or closely resemble previously published work will not be accepted. Authors should disclose any related prior or concurrent submissions.
Ethical Clearance
Authors must confirm that their research complies with applicable regulations. Ethical approval is mandatory for studies involving human or animal subjects. Human studies must include informed consent and ethics committee approval, while animal studies must detail procedures ensuring minimal suffering.
