Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) remains a serious public health issue in Indonesia, particularly in rural areas with tropical environments that foster the breeding of Aedes aegypti mosquitoes such as Suka Damai Village in Muara Badak District, Kutai Kartanegara Regency. This community service initiative aimed to educate the local population specifically members of the Family Welfare Empowerment (PKK) group and general residents of Suka Damai Village about DHF and the importance of prevention. The program utilized health education methods comprising lectures and interactive discussions covering the causes, symptoms, and transmission of DHF, as well as prevention strategies through the 3M Plus movement (draining water containers, covering them, and burying items that could serve as mosquito breeding sites). Attended by 41 to 60 participants, the event was marked by active community engagement, evidenced by an enthusiastic question-and-answer session. The evaluation was conducted using a qualitative method involving oral questions. The results indicated that participants gained a solid understanding of the material presented, particularly regarding the characteristics of the Aedes aegypti mosquito and the steps involved in the 3M Plus protocol. This initiative is expected to foster a shift toward preventive behavior within the community and support sustainable DHF prevention efforts in Suka Damai Village.
