Abstract

Environmental cleanliness is an essential aspect of creating a healthy and comfortable community life. Based on field observations in Kampung Merasa, waste management issues were identified, including open burning of waste and low community awareness of environmental cleanliness. To address these issues, the KKN team carried out the Clean Village Movement program, aimed at improving public knowledge and participation in waste management. The program was implemented through socialization sessions covering organic and inorganic waste types, the environmental impact of waste, and proper waste management practices, complemented by Q&A sessions and open discussions. To reinforce the educational message, the program also produced two supporting facilities: an information board displaying the decomposition time of various types of waste, and waste bins to encourage proper disposal habits. The results showed strong community enthusiasm, reflected in active participation during discussions. However, obstacles were encountered, particularly limited participation among some residents due to poor communication between the local RT (neighborhood) head and residents, as well as a schedule conflict with a religious activity held by RT 01 residents. The program proved effective as an initial step in building awareness and better waste management habits, although its sustainability requires continued support and monitoring from relevant stakeholders.
