Abstract

Management of household waste in Jak Luay Village, particularly organic waste, remains sub-optimal due to the practice of dumping and burning waste around residential areas. Additionally, the region faces potential flood hazards. This community service activity, conducted as part of the Student Community Service (KKN) program, aimed to apply biopore infiltration hole technology as a solution for household organic waste management while enhancing groundwater recharge. The activity was carried out in RT 04, Jak Luay Village, Muara Wahau District, East Kutai Regency in July 2026. The methodology encompassed environmental observation, preparation of perforated 4-inch PVC pipes measuring 50 cm in length, installation of biopores across six pilot households (5 biopore points per house, totaling 30 units), and direct educational sessions covering operational principles, organic waste filling, composting, and biopore maintenance. Results showed that all 30 biopore infiltration holes were successfully installed, and pilot residents gained a thorough understanding of their implementation. The biopore application provides an effective means to reduce open burning and dumping of organic waste while yielding secondary benefits in groundwater infiltration and compost production for household gardens.
