Abstract

The community service activity through the 52nd Collaborative Community Service Program (KKN) of Mulawarman University was conducted in Pelita Village, Samarinda Ilir District, Samarinda City, from July 13 to August 22, 2026. The activity was motivated by the suboptimal financial management of MSMEs and the limited utilization of organic and inorganic waste in the community. This activity aimed to strengthen community capacity through the integration of creative economy, environmental sanitation, and financial literacy. The methods employed participatory and educational approaches through observation, MSME data collection and assistance, waste processing training, and financial literacy education. MSME assistance was conducted through a door-to-door approach focusing on the separation of personal and business finances and simple transaction recording. Inorganic waste in the form of used plastic bottle caps was processed into recycled keychains, while organic waste such as vegetable scraps and fruit peels was processed into compost, Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC), and eco-enzyme. Financial literacy education was provided to fourth-grade students at SDN 012 Samarinda Ilir through interactive learning and the use of target savings boxes to introduce pocket money management and saving habits. The results showed the implementation of MSME data collection and assistance, the production of creative products from inorganic waste, the production of compost, POC, and eco-enzyme, and the implementation of financial literacy education for students. Overall, the activity demonstrated that hands-on practice and community assistance can support capacity building in business management, waste utilization, and financial literacy.
