Abstract

The Village/Urban Village Mapping and Statistics Movement (GEMASTA) in Sambaliung integrates population statistics, participatory mapping, field verification, and geographic information systems to support neighborhood-level territorial administration. This community engagement study aimed to analyze population dynamics, develop spatial profiles for 23 neighborhood units, assess the internal consistency of boundary data, and formulate a sustainable local data-management model. The community service team compiled statistical data for 2021–2025; recorded boundary-point coordinates, polygon areas, and perimeters; verified information through coordination with the Sambaliung Urban Village Office, neighborhood leaders, residents, and Statistics Indonesia; and processed the spatial data in QGIS. Descriptive analysis showed that the population increased from 16,344 in 2022 to 19,253 in 2025, representing a 17.80% increase. Population density in 2024 reached approximately 642.51 persons/km² based on the reported administrative area of 29.22 km². The combined area of the 23 neighborhood polygons reached 39.59 km², exceeding the reported administrative area by 10.37 km² or 35.51%. This discrepancy indicates a need to reconcile topology, coordinate reference systems, attribute records, and boundary versions before formal administrative use. GEMASTA produced a digital map, a spatial database, print-ready map layouts, boundary-point documentation, and a deliberative verification mechanism. The participatory model provides a practical foundation for improving local data governance, public services, and evidence-based development planning.
