Abstract

Merabu Village in Berau Regency, East Kalimantan, possesses significant ecotourism potential but has yet to be fully developed. The main challenges are the lack of standardized ecotourism management and limited data collection on tourist sites. This community service aims to explore and enhance Merabu's ecotourism potential through a participatory approach that involves local residents as active participants in sustainable tourism growth. The process involves systematic stages, including field observations, stakeholder discussions, community capacity-building training, and technical assistance in managing ecotourism sites. The Community-Based Tourism (CBT) approach is employed to ensure local involvement in planning, execution, and benefits. Outcomes include detailed data on four key ecotourism sites: Lake Nyadeng, known for its natural beauty; Puncak Ketepu, offering mountain views and trekking; Goa Tembus, featuring unique geological formations; and a variety of local souvenirs such as handicrafts from non-timber forest products reflecting local wisdom. Additionally, the activity increased community knowledge about sustainable ecotourism standards. This strategy aims to boost local economic well-being, conserve biodiversity in the village forests, and strengthen Merabu's cultural identity, positioning it as a sustainable and environmentally conscious ecotourism destination in Berau Regency.
