Abstract

This community service activity aimed to identify the level of knowledge and awareness of residents regarding disaster potential, as well as to assess their preparedness in facing such events. The program was implemented through questionnaire surveys Through Mapping Community Perceptions in Disaster Risk Management and participatory socialization in Sambutan Subdistrict, Samarinda City, an area highly vulnerable to floods and landslides. Surveys were conducted in RT 40 (landslide-prone) and RT 04 (flood-prone). The results indicated that the community demonstrated a fairly good level of awareness, particularly concerning the importance of early mitigation, the spirit of mutual cooperation, and the willingness to participate in disaster awareness programs. Analysis using the Histogram method showed that preparedness factors with high approval included the possession of evacuation plans, awareness of community roles, and social solidarity. Meanwhile, Pareto analysis revealed limitations in technical aspects, such as limited disaster training experience and the suboptimal availability of early warning systems. The participatory socialization activities conducted in RT 40 further strengthened residents’ understanding of early disaster signs, mitigation strategies, and preparedness measures at the individual, family, and community levels.
