Abstract

Waste management remains a major challenge in communities, particularly due to the low awareness of proper waste sorting and utilization. This Community Service Program through the Kuliah Kerja Nyata (KKN) was carried out to provide education and practical skills to the residents of Semangko Village through three main programs: waste sorting, biopore infiltration hole construction, and processing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles. The implementation methods included socialization, counseling, hands-on practice, and mentoring to ensure that the acquired skills could be applied independently. The results showed an increase in elementary school students’ awareness of sorting organic, inorganic, reusable, and residual waste, which helped reduce waste volume in the school environment. Biopore construction proved beneficial in reducing organic waste while producing natural compost and improving soil absorption capacity. Meanwhile, processing used cooking oil into aromatherapy candles not only reduced hazardous waste but also created economic value through environmentally friendly products. Therefore, these three programs successfully fostered an environmental care culture while supporting the principles of sustainable development at the community level.
