Abstract

Regional economic development in Indonesia continues to face the challenge of interregional disparities, particularly in provinces with high levels of inequality. One of the approaches proposed to address this issue is the Growth Pole Theory, which argues that significant economic growth can be achieved by establishing growth centers in areas with the greatest development potential. This study aims to explore regional development strategies by utilizing local potential as a driving force for economic growth. The research employs a literature review method based on the concepts of regional and economic growth. The findings indicate that the implementation of the growth pole approach can generate positive spread effects on surrounding areas. However, it also poses the risk of backwash effects, which may exacerbate regional disparities if not properly managed. Therefore, the successful implementation of the growth pole approach requires equitable infrastructure development and improvements in human resource quality to ensure sustainable regional economic development.
