FACTORS ASSOCIATED WITH THE INCIDENCE OF HIGH BLOOD PRESSURER AMONG CONSTRUCTION WORKERS AT PT. REKAYASA INDUSTRI

Abstract

Hypertension is a growing global health problem that contributes significantly to morbidity and mortality, including among construction workers who face high-risk exposures such as heavy workloads, work-related stress, and unfavorable work environments. The main issue identified in this study is that workers tend to experience physical fatigue and psychological stress due to project demands, as well as complaints such as dizziness, tension, and palpitations following intense work activities. Informal blood pressure checks also revealed that some workers have high blood pressure. This study aims to analyze factors associated with elevated blood pressure among employees of construction contractor PT. Rekayasa Industri, including age, smoking behavior, work-related stress, work shifts, and workload. The research method employed is a quantitative design using a cross-sectional approach with a total sampling method involving 35 respondents. Data were collected via a digital questionnaire and secondary company data from blood pressure measurements, and then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results of the study indicate that there is a significant association (p < 0.05) between age (p=0.033), work-related stress (p=0.000), and workload (p=0.007) and the occurrence of hypertension, while the variables work shift (p=1.000) and smoking behavior (p= 0.700) did not show a significant association (p > 0.05). These findings indicate that internal and psychosocial factors play a significant role in elevated blood pressure among construction workers. In conclusion, efforts to control hypertension among workers should focus on stress management and workload regulation.
