Diseminasi Pembelajaran Teknologi Sabo untuk Mitigasi Bencana di Kalimantan Timur melalui Program International Student Exchange

This article discusses a community service program (PKM) focused on enhancing public understanding of Sabo technology as a strategy for mitigating erosion and sedimentation in East Kalimantan. Capacity building for the implementing team was carried out through field observations at the Tanakamiyama Sabo Erosion Control site in Japan, which were later translated into public educational materials. Dissemination was conducted online through social media and evaluated using a digital questionnaire completed by 36 respondents. Before dissemination, 55.6% of respondents had previously heard of Sabo technology, while 44.4% had not. After receiving the educational content, all respondents stated that the material clearly explained the functions of Sabo and that they understood the main function of a Sabo dam. These results indicate that social-media-based dissemination can effectively introduce Sabo principles to the participating community. For East Kalimantan, which is prone to landslides and flash floods due to mining activities, deforestation, oil palm expansion, and development pressures from the Nusantara Capital City (IKN), Sabo technology provides a valuable reference. These findings demonstrate that all respondents experienced a significant improvement in understanding the function of Sabo dams and the urgency of sediment control. This underscores that community-based educational approaches are effective in building disaster mitigation awareness and are highly relevant for strengthening Forest and Land Rehabilitation (RHL) efforts in East Kalimantan.
